Tuesday May 31, 2016

Highlights:
We began discussing our final research project in science today.  We will be collecting information over the next couple of weeks for our animal projects.
Today we were asked to create a story based on a series of 3 pictures.  We worked very hard to write independently for 30 minutes! Way to go everyone. J

Literacy M.A.P. We have finished our Literacy  MAP word list for the year! Hooray and congratulations Gr. 1’s!  We will continue to do spelling for June, however we will be using a variety of words from Science and Social Studies.  This weeks words are:

Tuesday: living, air, animal, non living
Wednesday: shelter, five, senses, see
Thursday: Practice Quiz
Friday: QuizJ

Tell and Show: Wow! We are writing about “w” this week.

Dream Box: Dreambox is an interactive math program that the students have been working on here at school.  We encourage the students to log in at home and practice developing their problem solving skills. Teachers are able to track their progress and see what areas they are excelling in or that may need improvement. Here is the link: https://play.dreambox.com/login/dq8q/panoramahs

Home Reading – Please have your child read around 20 minutes every night.  Don’t forget to engage your child by talking to them about the text.  Being a good reader is more than just knowing the words!!  Good readers will: make connections, ask and answer questions, visualize the text, make inferences and transform their thinking.

Alternatives to Traditional Reading – Part of being a good reader is understanding how to tell a story!  Sometimes listening to a good book is just as educational as reading a good book. Please check out the links below for alternatives for those days where you’d like to a change of pace.
