Highlights:
-
We had a Fire Drill practice this afternoon
-
We learned two new double-graphemes: ow,
ou
-
We did today’s morning math word problem: “There are 6 bats flying. There are 7 bats sleeping. How many bats are there altogether?”
-
We read our book, Poetry book, high-frequency word flashcards, and/or our
previous writing in our Journal Writing notebooks during “Read to Self” in
Daily 5
-
We went to Gym this afternoon, where we practiced passing the ball to the next
person in the line by using our underhand throws, overhand throws, and chest
passes, and when we were in front of the wall we made sure to bounce the ball
against the wall to catch it.
-- Ms.
Mui’s class: We learned new poems in our Poetry books and read altogether
in chorus. We read quietly, building our
reading stamina, and we read for 20 minutes today during “Read to Self”! In Math, we made AAB patterns. In Social Studies, we interviewed Karen
today. We went to Music today, and
learned the beginning part of our “Forgiveness” song for the upcoming
Forgiveness Virtue Assembly on October 26.
-- Mrs.
Daniels’ class: In math, we did a sorting activity. In Social Studies, we interviewed Natalie today
(ask your child what Natalie’s favourite things are, what she likes, and how
many people are in her family). In Daily
5, we worked on “Work on Writing”. We also
introduced “Word Work” today by making words.

the SPECIAL price of $20 each. This
price expires on December 31, 2015.
Yearbooks purchased after December 31, 2015 will be priced at $30
each. Yearbooks will be printed and
delivered to the school in June.
Homework:
-Print
double graphemes five times each and say the spelling rule out loud while
printing each grapheme in homework book: ow,
ou
ow – “ow, o” (e.g.
the 2 sounds in the words: how, low)
ou – “ow, o, oo, u” (e.g.
the 4 sounds in the words: noun, your, you, young)
(Grapheme
sounds/spelling rules are on the youtube Grapheme Video at the right-hand
sidebar of this blog)
-Review the double graphemes every day:
er, ir, ur, wor, ear, sh, ee, th, ay, ai, ow, ou
-Review
the learning of the “er”,
“ir”, “ur”, “wor”, “ear” grapheme sounds by playing this song on youtube
to remember the sounds to particular words: “Her first nurse
works early”. Please play
this song at home, to help your child remember the grapheme spellings as well:
-Review
the first single graphemes daily, using the youtube Grapheme Video posted at
the right-hand sidebar of this blog
-Home-Reading – Please
have your child read around 15 minutes every night. If we run out of other titles of the Level A white
paper books your child is currently reading for home-reading, please log your
child onto his/her kidsa-z.com reading account to find other titles in Level A
that he/she hasn’t read yet. Then write
down the title of that book onto your child’s “Reading Log”. Your child will read 1 book a night.
-Kidsa-z.com Reading – Besides reading the at-home white readers that are going home every day, you may also log on to “Raz-Kids”, using the kidsa-z.com website. The login information is taped on your child’s purple folder. The password is the picture cue.
Mrs. Daniel’s class - the account information is still under her
maiden name: “sbeechey”.
Ms. Mui’s class – the account is under her username: “grmui”
Ask
me about:
-the Fire Drill practice and what are the rules that
we have to follow when there is a fire drill? (line up at the door quietly, no
talking, walking only, do not cover up your ears so that you can hear any
announcements/warnings from teachers, etc.)
-what I did in math today (patterning or sorting)
-to show you what I did to solve the morning
math word problem using pictures/numbers
Needed
from Home:
We are still
collecting water bottle lids! We are in
need of MANY water bottle lids, so that we can print letters on the top of the
lids, and students can be able to make words out of them and play word work
games soon. Please send in any that you
may have. Thank you!
