Highlights:
The students whose Library Day was today got to share their 3
sentence clues for Letter A during Tell and Show. We reviewed grapheme sounds. We did Daily 5
rotations this morning. Students, work
on your Tell and Show written and oral sharings for Letter B next week! Try to come up with letter b words that will
be challenging and hard to guess.
Ms. Mui’s class: We did a
morning math word problem this morning.
In Science, we learned that light is made up of colours. We found more coloured objects from flyers
and newspapers, to fill up our group’s coloured paper for our “I Spy” Colour
Class Book.
Mrs. Daniel’s class: Today was Jayden’s last
day at our school. We made cards and
wrote letters to him, and said goodbye to him.
We will miss him. We did a “building
words” activity in the morning. We did
some math activities in the afternoon.
Important information:
Winter Concert DVD for $10.00
A blue form went home
today, regarding the ordering of a Winter Concert DVD that can be purchased for
$10.00 (cash only). A videographer
recorded the whole 1 hour-long concert yesterday in the afternoon (1:30-2:30
pm) when all the students were present.
As the Grade 1 and 2 students haven’t had the opportunity to watch the
whole Winter Concert production themselves (they were only able to watch Ms.
Mui and Mrs. Daniels’ classes’ practices) as they were backstage during the
rest of the concert duration, it would be a valuable keepsake to purchase a DVD
for your family to enjoy during the winter break and for many years to
come. The DVD order form and $10.00
cash payment (please place in envelope) is due next Monday, December 14, 2015
to the videographer.
The Alex
“Warm Toes Without Holes”
(last day
to bring stuffed Socks in: Monday, Dec. 14)
The virtue of December is
“Service”, where are are learning that service means to help people in need,
whether it is helping to shovel an elderly person’s driveway, help carry
someone’s grocery bags to their car, donate food for the various food drives,
and to donate clothing.
The Alex is a community health
centre that welcomes homeless teenagers/youth and those who come from poor
family backgrounds, with little food and every necessities. As a school, we are encouraged to make socks,
stuffed with everyday essential toiletries, for these male and female
youth/teenagers, so that they can go about their every day being able to use
these items. To make your sock, buy a
long, warm pair of male or female sock (or both), roll up one of the socks and
put it into the bottom of the other sock, and stuff it inside with these items:
toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, soap, body lotion, shaver, shaving
cream, mittens, hand sanitizer, bus tickets to travel about the city,
McDonalds/Tim Hortons gift cards for food, etc.). The youth/teenagers who frequently visit The
Alex will be happy to receive these as their Christmas gifts. àPlease tie up your Male or Female stuffed
sock with ribbon, and label the Male or Female sock “Male” or “Female”, so The
Alex will know who the sock will be given to as a Christmas present, to keep
their feet warm this winter.
Mayor’s
Food Drive
-Thursday, December 17 – Last day to bring in Non-perishable food items (e.g.
canned food, soup, uncooked pasta, etc.) for the Mayor’s Food Drive that CBE
and the Food Bank have partnered together, to provide food for families who do
not have enough to eat during this Christmas holiday/winter season.
Homework:
-Tell and Show – Letter B written and oral sharings next week
(on your Library day).
- No Spelling homework until the new year. Temporarily we will be reviewing graphemes
until Christmas break. Before the end of
Christmas Break, we will have a final quiz of all the 54 graphemes learned this
year. If your child needs more practice
catching up on the grapheme sounds, review the single and double grapheme
sounds over Christmas break, to prepare them for more challenging grapheme
sounds (3-letter graphemes) and Spelling words in the new year.
Below are the links to the review videos for all of the graphemes and
spelling words learned this year:

Ask me about:
- What was my favourite part about Daily 5 rotations
today? What did I work on?
- What is Transparent? Letting all
the light pass through an object clearly
(the object is see-through)
Examples
of Transparent: window, clear plastic water bottle, glass cup/jar, Ziploc
bag, tape, eye glass lens, clear plastic, plastic container, magnifying glass,
fish tank, an aquarium
What
is Translucent? Letting some of the light pass through
an object.
Examples
of Translucent: wax paper, a piece of notebook paper, frosted window, tinted
glass, a glass jar/clear plastic water bottle with green food colouring water
in it, a plastic container/bowl that isn’t completely see-through (the object
is not very see-through--you cannot see your hand through these objects
clearly; you can only see your hand’s shadow from behind)
What
is Opaque? Letting none of the light pass through
an object (the object is not see-through).
Examples
of Opaque: door, wall, brick wall, wooden desk, white board, Smart
Board, iPad, cell phone, laptop, eraser, pencil, pencil sharpener, crayon,
