Winter Concert song video students can practice at home:
Mrs. Mann, the Music teacher, posted a practice video for the song sung by all Grade One and Grade Two students on the PHS Music blog:    http://panoramahillsmusic.blogspot.ca

The Alex “Warm Toes Without Holes”
(last day to bring stuffed Socks in: Monday, Dec. 14)
The virtue of December is “Service”, where are are learning that service means to help people in need, whether it is helping to shovel an elderly person’s driveway, help carry someone’s grocery bags to their car, donate food for the various food drives, and to donate clothing.

The Alex is a community health centre that welcomes homeless teenagers/youth and those who come from poor family backgrounds, with little food and every necessities.  As a school, we are encouraged to make socks, stuffed with everyday essential toiletries, for these male and female youth/teenagers, so that they can go about their every day being able to use these items.  To make your sock, buy a long, warm pair of male or female sock (or both), roll up one of the socks and put it into the bottom of the other sock, and stuff it inside with these items: toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, soap, body lotion, shaver, shaving cream, mittens, hand sanitizer, bus tickets to travel about the city, McDonalds/Tim Hortons gift cards for food, etc.).  The youth/teenagers who frequently visit The Alex will be happy to receive these as their Christmas gifts.  àPlease tie up your Male or Female stuffed sock with ribbon, and label the Male or Female sock “Male” or “Female”, so The Alex will know who the sock will be given to as a Christmas present, to keep their feet warm this winter.

Mayor’s Food Drive
-Thursday, December 17 – Last day to bring in Non-perishable food items (e.g. canned food, soup, uncooked pasta, etc.) for the Mayor’s Food Drive, for families who do not have enough to eat during this Christmas holiday

Tell and Show – Letter A written and oral sharing this week
Grade 1 students in Ms. Mui and Mrs. Daniels’ classes is  starting Tell and Show sharings this week.  Students will be doing their Tell and Show oral sharing on their Library day.

Parents, students are in Grade 1 and we ask that they learn to independently write the sentence clues and sound out the clues to their spellings.  They cannot copy down the words from an adult’s.  Instead, guide them how to sound out the letter sounds in their writing, and allow them to write their own beginning, middle, and end sounds in their writing, using finger spaces between each word, an upper case letter at the front of the sentence, and a period at the end of the sentence.

Each week we will focus on one letter of the alphabet for our tell and show.  They select an object that starts with the letter of the week, draw the object, write 3 clues (3 sentences) that describe the object, orally present the clues to the class, and may also bring in the item (if they choose).  Please practice the oral sharing with your child, so that they have rehearsed their 3 sentence clues before coming to class on their Tell and Show day (Library day).

Highlights:
We did dress rehearsals all day today.  We practiced “Sally Go Round The Sun” and Monster-Number songs many times today, so that our performances impressed you at this afternoon’s 1:30 pm concert.  You’ll be even prouder of us for doing it a second time this evening at 6:30 pm!

Homework:
- No Spelling homework until the new year.  Temporarily we will be reviewing graphemes until Christmas break.  Before the end of Christmas Break, we will have a final quiz of the graphemes learned this year.  If your child needs more practice catching up on the grapheme sounds, review the single and double grapheme sounds over Christmas break, to prepare them for more challenging grapheme sounds (3-letter graphemes) and Spelling words in the new year.
- Tell and Show – Letter A written and oral sharings for tomorrow (if your Library day is tomorrow).
