Highlights:
Today Ms. Bain read us a story called, ‘When Sophie Gets Angry… Really, Really Angry…’, By Molly Bang.  There are many moments in our lives when we get a little frustrated and it turns to anger!  In the story, when Sophie gets really, really angry, she EXPLODES!  She RUNS!  She CRIES!  Students were able to draw from their own personal experiences and make connections between the story and their lives.  Parents, please help us continue to build on this skill at home.  When you’re reading a book with your child, ask them questions, have conversations, helping us practice good reader skills!

Students got their final “mini” building challenging today: creating a structure that could contain a handful of small blocks, with the added challenge of the structure being portable.  This activity reinforced the idea that the type of material matters when building specific structures. We also learned that even though we many not have completed the task, scientist always learn from every activity, learn from every “mistake”.

It was a busy and messy afternoon in our Grade One classrooms!  Students got to throw, roll and smush clay, each creating a unique sphere pot.  We have to let our creations completely dry before they go in the kiln.  Next step: painting!

Home Reading – Please have your child read around 20 minutes every night.  Don’t forget to ask questions and have conversations about the text.

Kidsa-z.com Reading – Besides reading the at-home white readers that are going home every day, you may also log on to “Raz-Kids”, using the kidsa-z.com website.  The login information is taped on your child’s purple folder.
