Highlights:
Today during our Reading Power lesson, we learned about ‘questions’ and ‘visualizing’.  Did you know that good questions begin with the words: who, what, when, where and why?  When we are reading books, good readers ask questions about what they are reading, actively engaging their brains.  When you visualize, your brain uses your 5 senses to make pictures or movies in your brain.  You actually see/experience what the author is saying in the book!  This can help us decode unfamiliar words or understand new terms. We will practice these good reader skills at school and at home!

Everyone is done painting their pots and they look amazing!  Students that finished their pots yesterday got to look at their finished product.  The paint once looked flat and chalky, but now is shiny and colourful!

Homework:
Literacy M.A.P. – Word Study List #18 – Don’t forget to study for our test tomorrow!
Monday: end, friend, best, share
Tuesday: after, one once, upon

Tell and Show: Students have been questing all week for quality and quirky “Qq” words.   If you haven’t found one yet, don’t quit but be quick… there’s only one day left!

Dream Box: Dreambox is an interactive math program that the students have been working on here at school.  We encourage the students to log in at home and practice developing their problem solving skills. Teachers are able to track their progress and see what areas they are excelling in or that may need improvement. Here is the link: https://play.dreambox.com/login/dq8q/panoramahs

Home Reading – Please have your child read around 20 minutes every night.  Don’t forget to ask questions and have conversations about the text.

Kidsa-z.com Reading – Besides reading the at-home white readers that are going home every day, you may also log on to “Raz-Kids”, using the kidsa-z.com website.  The login information is taped on your child’s purple folder.

What other materials might your child need in order to build a robot?  Now that we know what we are creating, everyone gets an opportunity to bring in some extra items.

FYI:

We need volunteers! – All the grade 1 classes are going on a field trip to the International Calgary Children's Festival on May 25th. Each class will need 5 parent volunteers. We are going to be spending the day downtown at the festival and will also be seeing a performance by Fred Penner. If you have security clearance, we would love to have you join us. Please notify your child's teacher if you're available. Thank you!
