Highlights:
Our two classes met up with Mrs. Zaharichuk this morning to continue with our We Do! Projects.  After a brief recap of the expectations, students once again worked together with their partners to complete their animals.  There were in depth conversations going on regarding the processes and compromising between peers.  We will continue this work tomorrow.

Today we began to explore the world of poetry.   Students got to hear different styles of poetry and realized that sometimes the words would rhyme, some of the passages were hard to understand and that poems are shorter than stories.  Students got to then try their own hand at writing acrostic poems about themselves.  After being taught how to write proper sentences, it was difficult was students to let go of the usual writing expectations and let their ideas flow freely.

Goodbye to our friend Aubri!  Today was her last day at PHS.  We all wish her luck at her new school and will always remember her smile and friendship!

Highlights:
It was a morning of technology!  Did you know that you can record videos and take pictures using a program called Photobooth?  Although you can take “normal” pictures using this app, it was more fun to morph and manipulate our faces!  Some students made discoveries about the program (how to take 4 pictures at a time and making the Photo Booth window larger) and got to share their expertise with the class.  After taking time to get to know the program, some students then used the recording aspect to add a goal to IRIS.

We also got to explore on a math website called Dreambox.  Students got to pick an avatar and their own password.  Students are encouraged to explore this website further at home!

What are the different parts of the eye?  Students took a deep look today as we sketched our pupils, iris’, lashes and lids.  We practiced sketching like an artist, using whispering lines, and using several shades of a colour to fill in the iris.

Highlights:

WE LOVE MATH!  Exploring numbers, shapes, fractions and equations helps our brains to grow.  Students spend the morning discussing what 1/2 looks like, the different types of lines found in the world (vertical, horizontal, diagonal) and how we can use our knowledge of numbers to make complex math equations.

Mrs. Leung-Chow’s class morphed into scientists this afternoon, exploring their 5 senses with Sensational Science!  Through a series of different centers, students worked with our volunteers to learn more about hearing, seeing, smelling, touching and TASTING! (our favourite)!  Thank you for all the volunteers who came in to help out… it was a blast! Please enjoy the short video above.
