Highlights:
Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy Chinese New year! It was so wonderful to see everyone in their
special outfits, and all dressed in RED and GOLD. Did you know that the ancient Chinese people
used the moon as their calendar? That is
why the date of their New Year’s is always changing. 2016 is the year of the Monkey. What zodiac animal are you?
We celebrated this special day by
learning a new song, making our own fortune cookies, reading a book about Lin
and her pet dragon and learning how to write some Chinese characters.
Three of the Grade 3 classes hosted an
assembly today about the virtue of ‘commitment’. You could tell they had practiced very hard! Student's shared some of their writing about friendship, a song about commitment, a commercial about helping reduce air pollution and
an animated story about how one act of kindness can change someones life.

Tell
and Show – This week is letter “H”. Some
students were finding it difficult to finish their printing and their colouring
on the same night. If you are finding
this is happening, try starting your page earlier and do a little each night to
spread out the work into more manageable chunks.
Home Reading – Please
have your child read around 20 minutes every night. Don’t forget to ask questions and have
conversations about the text.
Kidsa-z.com Reading –
Besides reading the at-home white readers that are going home every day, you
may also log on to “Raz-Kids”, using the kidsa-z.com website. The
login information is taped on your child’s purple folder.
Ask Me About:
How do you say, “Happy Chinese New
Year”? We practiced the phrase two ways,
in Mandarin and in Cantonese and if we said it correctly to our teachers, we got a special surprise!
What was the story, “The Pet Dragon”
about?
